Verse: “Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” — Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV)

Have you noticed that some days everything weighs twice as much? You wake up tired, yesterday’s problems are still there, and smiling takes effort. We live in times when sadness disguises itself as normal: everyone is busy, everyone is stressed, and joy seems like a luxury for those who have no problems. But the Bible says something radically different.
This verse was born in a moment of tears. The people of Israel had just heard God’s law after years of wandering away, and they wept as they recognized their failures. Then Nehemiah, Ezra, and the Levites told them something surprising: do not weep today, celebrate. Because God’s joy does not depend on everything being resolved; it is a strength He places in us in the middle of the unresolved.
Look carefully: it does not say “joy is nice” or “joy is a reward.” It says it is your strength. As bread is strength for the body, the joy of God is energy for the soul. When the enemy wants to see you defeated, his first strategy is to steal your joy; because a discouraged person does not pray, does not believe, does not move forward. That is why joy is not a decoration of faith: it is a weapon.
How is that joy cultivated? Not by pretending everything is fine, but by remembering who is with you. When you praise in the middle of the storm, when you give thanks before seeing the answer, when you sing even though your legs tremble, you are exercising a strength that does not come from you. Paul and Silas sang hymns in prison at midnight, and the chains broke. Joy did not wait for freedom: it caused it.
Today I invite you to make a simple change: instead of repeating your problems out loud, repeat out loud what God has done for you. Make a mental list: He lifted you from mornings that seemed impossible, He held you when no one else did, He gave you bread when the pantry was empty. Each memory is a spark of joy, and sparks ignite fires.
The joy of the Lord is not easy laughter; it is the deep peace of knowing your life is in the hands of the Almighty. And that peace, brother, is the strength that will carry you to victory.
