Verse: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28 (KJV)
The Hook
You’re driving with the GPS and, distracted, you miss your exit. The phone doesn’t panic or scold you: it just says “Recalculating route…” and within seconds shows you another way to reach the same destination. God does that with you. You messed up, life took a detour, someone let you down, a door you thought was final closed… and instead of writing you off, God starts recalculating: “It’s not over. I’ll take you another way.” Nothing in your story goes to waste when He holds the wheel.
The Truth
Paul wrote the letter to the Romans from Corinth, around the year 57, to Christians in Rome living under pressure and persecution. And in chapter 8 —the most famous chapter in the entire Bible— he gives them the greatest news: there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be uttered… and God takes every piece of your life —the good ones, the broken ones, and the ones you’d rather forget— and makes them work together for your good.
And Paul doesn’t write this from a comfortable armchair. He writes it as someone who was beaten, stoned, imprisoned, and shipwrecked: someone who watched God recalculate his own route again and again. That’s why he can say it with authority.
Pay attention to this: the verse doesn’t say that everything that happens to you IS good. Pain is not good, betrayal is not good, sickness is not good. It says that all things work together for good: God is the craftsman who takes ugly materials and builds something beautiful. Joseph understood this in Egypt: his brothers sold him as a slave, and years later he told them: “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good” (Genesis 50:20). The evil was still evil, but God recalculated it.
This is for your life today: that mistake you can’t forgive yourself for, that wait that hurts, that door that closed… none of them is the end of the story. God is already at work in the middle of them, weaving a good you cannot see yet.
The Reflection
- What part of your story do you keep labeling as a “loss,” when God could be using it as a seed?
- Are you waiting for the situation to change before believing God is at work, or do you believe Him today, in the middle of the detour?
Today’s Challenge
In less than five minutes: open the notes app on your phone and write down ONE thing you consider a failure or a loss. Underneath it, write this sentence: “God is using this for my good.” Read it out loud once. Done. Today, every time that wound tries to speak defeat to you, remind it who holds the wheel.
Praise for Today
To seal this devotional, there’s a song that says exactly that: God is in control even when everything seems out of control. I invite you to listen to Rojo: “Bajo Tu Control” will remind you in whose hands your story rests.
Prayer
Father, thank You because nothing I live through goes to waste. Help me trust that You are at work even when I can’t see it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
