1. Complete biography

From Mexico City to ministry (1963-1985)

Marco Antonio Barrientos Zumpano was born on June 28, 1963, in Mexico City. He is a Mexican evangelical Christian musician, pastor, author, teacher and speaker, known for combining practical biblical principles with the flow of prophetic songs. In 1985 he graduated from the Christ for the Nations Bible Institute and has been in full-time ministry ever since.

Pastor, founder of Aliento, and worship leader (1985-2004)

After graduating, he began as associate pastor of Amistad Cristiana in Mexico City, where he remained for 13 years. He then founded the ministry Amistad Cristiana Internacional and the label Aliento Producciones, of which he is president. He is also director and host of «Avívanos», his annual worship conference. His discography began in 1986 with Este Es El Día de Alabanza and grew without pause: in 1999 came Sin Reservas, one of his most remembered albums, and in 2000 Es Hora De Adorarle. In 2004 he released Viento + Fuego, which earned him his first Latin Grammy nomination in 2005.

Three Latin Grammy nominations and a living legacy (2005-2025)

Barrientos has been nominated three times for the Latin Grammy for Best Christian Album: for Viento + Fuego (2005), Transformados (2011) and Amanece (2015). He has also collaborated with other worship greats: he sang on Hillsong’s Global Project Español (2012) and on Bethel Music En Español (2019), and his collaboration «Salmo 23» with Un Corazón was nominated for a Dove Award in 2019. His live video of «Preciosa Sangre», from the album El Encuentro (2016), passed 125 million views. Besides singing, he is the author of books such as El plan de Dios para ti and Muéstrame tu gloria. In 2025 he released ALIENTO, his most recent album covered in this entry.
