He Has Not Forgotten You: God Remembers You by Name

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands.” — Isaiah 49:15-16 (ESV)

THE SCENE OR SITUATION

Has it ever happened to you that you send an important message and hours go by with no reply? At first you think the other person is just busy. Then you start rereading what you wrote, wondering if you said something wrong, if maybe you no longer matter to them. And when night comes, that small wait turns into a bigger doubt: could it be that nobody remembers me?

Sometimes life feels like that. You have been praying for the same thing for months and heaven seems silent. You watch others move forward while you stay in the same place. Nobody calls, nobody asks how you are, and little by little you convince yourself that you have been left out of the story, that God has passed you by too. It is not rebellion: it is weariness. It is a heart that, after waiting so long, starts to believe it was forgotten.

THE LIGHT OF THE WORD

God answers that feeling with a disarming question: can a mother forget the child she carried in her womb? The answer seems obvious, and yet God goes further: even if she forgot, I will never forget you. He does not say “maybe I will remember” or “I will keep you in mind when I can.” He says “never.” It is a promise with no expiration date, spoken to a people who felt abandoned in exile, far from home and convinced that God had already left them behind.

And then comes the tenderest image of all: God has engraved you on the palms of his hands. Not on a list that can be lost, nor in a diary that can be erased, but carved where He Himself always looks. Your name does not depend on others remembering you, inviting you, or answering your message. It is written on the hands of the One who never gets distracted and never grows tired of you. If today you feel invisible to the world, you are not invisible to God: He carries you with Him everywhere.

THE PAUSE FOR THE SOUL

Breathe. God’s silence is not forgetfulness, and waiting is not abandonment. There are seasons when He works in silence, like the root growing underground before the plant is seen. You do not need to make noise for Him to notice you, nor earn His attention with effort: you already have it. Rest in that today: you do not have to prove your worth for God to remember you; He remembers you because you are His.

What part of your life have you been reading as forgetfulness, when perhaps it is only waiting in safe hands?

THE PRAYER OF THE DAY

Lord, when I feel forgotten, remind me that my name is written on your hands.

Give me peace to wait without despairing and trust to believe that you have not left me alone.

Today I rest in knowing that you know me, you love me, and you carry me with you. Amen.
