Chile: evangelical churches cut youth reoffending by 18% after release from prison

The opening of evangelical churches in Chilean neighborhoods reduced the likelihood of returning to prison by 18.2% among young people convicted of property crimes, according to research by Andrés Barrios-Fernández (Universidad de los Andes, Chile) and Jorge García-Hombrados (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid), published to coincide with Chile’s National Day of Evangelical and Protestant Churches, held October 31.

The study analyzed Chilean prison records from 2006 to 2015 and the opening of 1,659 evangelical churches. Young people under 30 who returned after release to live within 100 meters of a new church were 11.1 percentage points less likely to be reincarcerated during the first year, with the effect already visible after three months. A survey of 66 pastors in Santiago found that 88% offer material aid, 85% family support, 62% addiction rehabilitation and 47% help finding work; the reduction was strongest in churches with addiction rehabilitation programs. In the United States, Prison Fellowship’s InnerChange Freedom Initiative achieved similar results: 26% fewer new arrests, 35% fewer convictions and 40% fewer reentries.

Argentina: ACIERA celebrated the Day of the Evangelical Churches with Milei at the Casa Rosada

The Christian Alliance of Evangelical Churches of Argentina (ACIERA) celebrated on Monday, October 26, at the Casa Rosada Museum in Buenos Aires, the official ceremony for the National Day of Evangelical and Protestant Churches, established by National Law 27.741 for October 31. Attendees included President Javier Milei, Presidential Chief of Staff Karina Milei, Secretary of Worship and Civilization Agustín Caulo, denominational leaders and pastors from 20 provinces.

Pastor Rafael Pedace, ACIERA’s vice president of external relations, welcomed the gathering and dedicated the ceremony in prayer, while executive vice president Jorge Gómez served as master of ceremonies. After the national anthem, pastors from across the country carried the flags of the 23 provinces and the City of Buenos Aires, and 12-year-old Mía Mirón read «Ephesians 4:1-6». There were moments of prayer for children, youth, women, the family, the church, evangelism, social commitment and education, and a closing prayer for the president and the executive branch. Music was provided by the Camerata Paz, directed by Constanza Bongarrá, with soloists Malena González and Miriam Bloise. The keynote address came from Christian Hooft, ACIERA’s president, who praised the churches’ social work in addiction recovery, soup kitchens and prisons, but stressed that their central mission is «the integral transformation of the person through faith in Jesus Christ: real change always happens from the inside out».

United States: Franklin Graham and pro-life leaders urge voting and prayer in the midterm elections

With the U.S. midterm elections held November 3 — all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats at stake — the Rev. Franklin Graham urged Christians to vote and pray over their ballot, while Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America mobilized its pro-life voter outreach, warning that the outcome would define abortion policy.

Graham, CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, wrote on Monday: “Tomorrow is a pivotal day in our nation’s history… VOTE, and ask God to give you wisdom.” SBA Pro-Life America president Marjorie Dannenfelser recalled that more than 1.1 million lives are lost to abortion in America each year; the group said it had reached 10.5 million persuadable or low-turnout voters, after announcing last year an $80 million investment in these elections. Four states faced abortion referendums —Missouri, Idaho, Nevada and Virginia— and in Missouri voters also decided on reversing a 2024 constitutional measure and banning gender-transition procedures for minors. Polls gave Democrats an 8.8-point lead on the generic congressional ballot, and the party would need a net gain of four seats to retake the Senate majority.

Turkey: new scans revive the debate over Noah’s Ark at Durupinar

Preliminary scan and drilling results released October 27 at the Durupinar site near Mount Ararat in Turkey — a 515-foot boat-shaped formation discovered in 1959 by Captain Ilhan Durupinar — are reviving the debate over whether Noah’s Ark has finally been found there. Researchers found fragments of ancient-appearing charred wood alongside organized patterns, chambers and corridors that scientists say are not geological in origin.

Dr. Jim Parker, professor of Biblical interpretation and archaeology at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, said: “For me as a Christian, I could not hope for anything more than that this site would be Noah’s Ark… such an affirmation of the veracity of the historicity of the Genesis account.” The Noah’s Ark Scans team conducted 12 core drills inside the formation and 4 outside; 2024 soil tests showed nearly three times more organic material inside than outside, and a 2027 excavation season is planned. Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis urged caution: “our faith in God’s Word does not rest on finding the Ark… it rests on the truth of Scripture.” Parker advised peer review before any claims of identity, and large anchor stones with crosses believed carved by Armenian Christians centuries later were found at the site.

Colorado and Arizona: Baptist churches respond to devastating flooding

At least four people died — two in Arizona and two in Florida — in flooding that struck Colorado, New Mexico, Florida, Utah and Arizona, as the San Juan River hit its two highest crests on record (October 23 and November 1) at Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where the home of a member of Centerpoint Baptist Church was pushed half off its foundation.

Senior Pastor Jon Duncan said: “We believe God just plain answered prayer and was gracious to that family”: the river crested under 17 feet against a forecast near 22 (the 1911 record was 17.8). The church became a staging area for Colorado Baptist Disaster Relief, with volunteers from Colorado and Oklahoma; more than a dozen Centerpoint members were evacuated and the First Baptist Church of Bayfield opened its facilities for them. Washed-out roads turned a one-hour drive into four. David Smith, regional director of the Colorado Baptist General Convention, said “the flooding in Southwest Colorado is worse than it was last year… I believe there will be more help needed than Colorado can provide.” Disaster relief issued a November 3 donation appeal for a weeks-long deployment, and Florida Baptist Disaster Relief activated separately for the flooding in that state.

Willy Ozoria releases «Promises», a worship single inspiring trust in God’s faithfulness

Dominican Christian singer-songwriter Willy Ozoria released his new single «Promises» on November 1, in collaboration with his daughter Ashlie Nicol: a message of faith, hope and perseverance recalling that God’s promises stand firm even in the midst of hardship.

On August 29, 2025, the «Promises» event was held in Santiago de los Caballeros, with a live recording of his worship songs in a day of music, prayer and fellowship alongside his daughter and the Shammat-y ministry. Ozoria placed second in singing festivals, was lead vocalist of the Christian ministry Tierra Santa, and performed at the massive «Draw Near to God» event at Santiago’s Cibao Stadium. In 2024 he began sharing Christian song covers on digital platforms, and that year, together with singer, worshipper and producer Moisés Echavarría, the idea of formally developing his artistic project was born, consolidated as a ministry in 2025. The collaboration with his daughter adds a family and spiritual dimension that invites believers to stand firm in faith “even when the fulfillment cannot yet be seen.”

Spiritual impact

These stories show a church that continues to be salt and light where it is needed most: in Chilean neighborhoods where a congregation helps a young man avoid returning to prison, in churches opening their doors to flood victims, and in believers voting with pro-life conviction. The Christian faith is not a speech: it is measured in transformed lives, as ACIERA’s president said, because «real change always happens from the inside out».

Prayer request

Let us pray for the victims of the flooding in the U.S. Southwest and Florida, and for the young people of Chile working to rebuild their lives after prison: may the church continue to be for them refuge, family and a new beginning.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him” — Romans 8:28.
