1. Complete biography
The origins: third of twelve children, in San Diego (1972-1995)
Annette Marie Moreno was born on April 26, 1972, in San Diego, California, United States, the third of the twelve children of Eliezer Moreno Jr. and Linda Moreno, Mexican immigrants; her father was a pastor and musician. In 1977 the family moved to Tucson, Arizona, the city where she still lives. Trained and educated in music, from the age of 12 Annette began her career in the mariachi group Los Salmos de Eliezer Moreno Jr., where she played violin and sang until she was 24. By then, besides singing, she had already written some song lyrics.
First solo album and the Rojo years (1995-2002)
In 1995, using her own compositions, she recorded her first album as a solo artist, titled «Volar Libre». In 1997, after years focused on ranchera music (mariachi), she joined the group Rojo, led by Emmanuel Espinosa, playing Christian rock and pop. In 2001, Rojo released its self-titled debut album, which contains a song composed by Annette Moreno titled «Jardín de Rosas», one of the band’s best-known songs. At the same time, Annette released her second solo album, «El Amor que me das», for which she received a nomination for the Ritmo Latino awards.
«Un Ángel Llora» and consecration (2002-2007)
In 2002, Annette decided to focus on her own compositions and, together with her brother Elí Moreno, began the «Annette Moreno y Jardín» era, which led to her leaving Rojo. On October 1, 2002, her third album, titled «Un Ángel Llora», was released, with the singles «Bájate de la Canoa», «Complicado» and «Guardián de mi corazón», which spent a long time at the top of Christian radio in Mexico and other Latin countries. With this album she received several nominations —Latin Grammy, Premios Arpa, Premios Vida, La Conquista, Integridad and De la Gente— and won awards at the Arpa, La Conquista and Premios Vida. The soundtrack of the movie «Cicatrices», directed by Paco del Toro, contains songs from this album. Almost a year later, at the end of 2003, she released a new album, «Navidad», and in 2004 she published «Ruleta Rusa». In early 2005 she released a compilation of her hits, «En Vivo», on CD and DVD, and the same year the compilation «Rewind… Lo esencial de Annette Moreno». During this time she also took part in other projects such as «Música Grupera», «Orbita X», «No me Critiques», «Proyecto Discípulo» and «Israel 3», and she wrote songs for the movies «Punto y Aparte» and «Un día sin mexicanos».
New sounds, «Demente» and the book (2006-2015)
In 2006 the album «Annette Moreno» (also known as «Mentira») came out, with more personal songs, and she toured much of Latin America. In 2008 she returned to rock music with «Revolucionar», which won Best Female Vocalist Album at the 2008 Premios Arpa. In 2011 she released «Barco de papel», trying out a new sound; the highlights were «Aquí están las llaves» and the single «Barco de papel». In 2012 she took part in Tercer Cielo’s album with the song «Demente», released as a single, which within days became a hit on Christian and secular radio and charted on Billboard: #18 on Hot Latin Songs, #46 on Latin Airplay and #18 on Latin Pop Songs. In 2013 she recorded «Su Mirada», a song she wrote for Funky and Redimi2’s album «Más», and she published her autobiographical book «Los perros que ladran», where she tells her experiences through her life and music career. In 2015 she presented «Extraño mi futuro»; «Debajo del agua» was the single from this project.
Still going: «Ansiedad», «1972» and «La Reina» (2016-2026)
In 2016 she released the single in English and Spanish «Belleza» / «So Beautiful», and two years later she released «Ansiedad» (2018); the World Tour Ansiedad 2018 marked her return to the stage. In 2020 she released three independent singles: «Hola, Hola», «Fachada» and «Diseño de Dios». In 2022 she released her new album «1972». In 2023 she released the single «En Días Así», and in 2024 she premiered «Happy Birthday», the lead-up to her most recent album, «La Reina», released on November 1, 2024. Annette Moreno lives in Tucson, Arizona, with her husband Donnie Serrano and their four children.
