What if it happens to me? It is like living in a tall building in a seismic zone: everything looks solid until you remember that the ground, sooner or later, moves. And the uncomfortable question nobody says out loud is this: where do I stand when everything shakes?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Truth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Psalm 46 was written by the sons of Korah, the temple musicians, probably in days when Jerusalem had an enemy army at its gates. They did not write it from calm, but from crisis. And their first line is not <strong>\u00abGod will get us out of this,\u00bb<\/strong> but something deeper: <strong>\u00abGod is our refuge and strength.\u00bb<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notice the verb: God <strong>is<\/strong> a refuge, He does not merely give one. A refuge is not improvised when the shaking starts; a refuge is the place you ran to before, the one you already know, the one that already held you. And it says <strong>\u00aba very present help in trouble\u00bb<\/strong>: the idea in Hebrew is that God is help that is present, at hand, already available \u2014not a crane that takes hours to arrive, but the hand already on your shoulder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why the psalm goes on to say <strong>\u00abwe will not fear, even though the earth be removed.\u00bb<\/strong> It does not say the earth will not move. It says that even if it moves, there is something that does not move: God. Today this means: your peace does not depend on everything being still outside, but on whom you are standing on inside. <strong>Human shelters fail; the divine Refuge does not.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Reflection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What false refuge have you been running to: money, control, the news, your plans?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What if the peace you are looking for is not in the storm calming down, but in knowing the One who does not shake?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Today&#8217;s Challenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In less than five minutes, do this: turn off your notifications, name out loud the specific thing that worries you most today (<strong>\u00abI am worried about&#8230;\u00bb<\/strong>), and then say out loud three times: <strong>\u00abGod is my refuge and my strength.\u00bb<\/strong> It is not magic; it is memory.
