"Redimi2"

1. Complete biography

From Santo Domingo to the microphone (1999)

Redimi2 is the stage name of Willy González Cruz, a Dominican Christian music rapper born on June 3, 1979, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. As a child he showed talent for the arts —drawing, painting and theater— and as a teenager he found in rap his means of expression. In mid-1999, together with his brother J.G. (Domínico González) and his friend Chiky, he formed the group Redimi2 Squad. That same year, after a life marked by drugs, he gave his life to Jesus Christ and decided to use his testimony as a message of hope and transformation. His mission was summed up in the movement MC1615, based on Mark 16:15 («Go into all the world and preach the gospel»).

His country’s first Christian rap album (2000)

In 2000 he released Combinación mortal, the first Christian rap album published in the Dominican Republic, which sold more than 50,000 copies and won the AMCL award for Urban Album of the Year in 2001. Lilly Goodman and Juan Carlos Rodríguez, lead singer of Tercer Cielo, took part in that album. The artist’s own page on Música Cristiana clarifies that Combinación mortal belongs to the Redimi2 Squad era, not to a solo debut.

Hasta los dientes and Revolución (2004-2006)

As a solo artist he released Hasta los dientes (2004), with collaborations from the Dominican group 3C and songs such as «5 micrófonos» (with Ariel Kelly and 3C), «Qué me viste» and «Déjame nacer». In 2006 he released Revolución, his third production, with the anthem «Yo no canto basura», a direct criticism of secular urban music for «corrupting young people», which became his personal hallmark for years. That same year he took part in the collaborative album Linaje escogido and brought together other Christian singers in El equipo invencible (2007), a various-artists production presented by him.

Vivo, Phenomenon Edition and the Exterminador trilogy (2008-2014)

In December 2007 he gave a concert in his country from which his first live production came out, Vivo: El concierto (2008), with his greatest hits, 6 unreleased songs and his first DVD. In 2009 he released Phenomenon Edition, with «Yo seré tu sol» (with Tercer Cielo) and «Volví a enamorarme» (with his wife Daliza, inspired by his daughter Samantha Kate). In 2010 he released his first mixtape, Rap Redimi2: Las cosas que nunca dije. Between 2011 and 2014 he developed the Exterminador trilogy: Operación P.R. (2011, dedicated to Puerto Rico), OPR 100X35 and Operación R.D. (2012, dedicated to the Dominican Republic) and Operación Mundial (2014), which reached #3 on Billboard’s Latin Albums chart and contains «El nombre de Jesús» (with Christine D’Clario), one of the most-watched Christian rap videos in history.

Pura Sal, Trapstornadores and La Resistencia (2017-2019)

In 2017 he released Pura Sal, a worship and celebration album with Evan Craft, Christine D’Clario, Julio Melgar, Miel San Marcos, Marcos Brunet, Funky and Alex Zurdo, among others. In 2018 came Trapstornadores, with the single «Trapstorno», which sparked a wave of video reactions for its mention of Bad Bunny and its criticism of secular trap content. In 2019 he presented «La praxis Freestyle», which went viral as a challenge, and organized the La Resistencia events in Puerto Rico (sold out at the Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot), Argentina, Colombia and Mexico.

20/20, UNO and Momentum (2020-2021)

On August 20, 2020, he released 20/20, with «Gravy», «Filipenses 1:6» (with Almighty, winner of the Tu Música Urbana Award for Best Christian Song), «Alegría», «Locos como yo», «Jesús» (with Betsy Jo) and «Todo va a estar bien» (with Evan Craft). The English version of this last song, «Be Alright» (with Evan Craft and Danny Gokey), debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart, his first entry on the Billboard charts in the United States. In February 2021 he released UNO, a collaborative project with Alex Zurdo and Funky, and in October of that year Momentum, with «Bacha Drill» (with Madiel Lara) and «Tú conmigo estás» (with Abby Valdez).

Rompiendo, Maverick, Base y fundamento, Épico and Oxígeno (2022-2026)

In June 2022 he released Rompiendo, an album that gave room to little-known Christian artists alongside established names such as Gabriel EMC, Madiel Lara and Ander Bock. In July 2023 he released Maverick, with 15 songs, including «Grasa», «El Sanfuanzon», «Parabellum» (chosen by Billboard among the Christian songs of 2023) and «Raperímetro». With Maverick he received his first Latin Grammy nomination, in the Best Christian Album in Spanish category. In 2024 he released Base y fundamento, again with many contemporary Christian music artists (Evan Craft, Miel San Marcos, Averly Morillo, Sarai Rivera and his group Distrito Royal), from which the single «Del Salmo 23» came. In 2025 he presented Épico, a double album of 15 songs made «without needing AI», with Natan el Profeta, Madiel Lara, Grupo Barak, Montesanto and Distrito Royal with his daughter Samantha Kate. In 2026 he released Oxígeno, an album of hope in Jesus with «NCB 20A» (20 years of «No canto basura»), «Seamos Luz» and «No es lo mismo» (with Daliza).

Family and his own label

Redimi2 founded his own label, Redimi2 Records Inc, under which he produces and distributes his music. His wife Daliza Contreras, whom he married in 2005, is also his manager and a key part of his music ministry. His daughter Samantha Kate has sung with him on several albums. With more than 25 years of career, Redimi2 is considered one of the leading exponents of Spanish-language Christian rap.
